The Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility – What and How for CSGF Fellows

The Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility (OLCF) was established at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in 2004 with the mission of standing up a supercomputer 100 times more powerful than the leading systems of the day. With 299,008 processing cores delivering a peak performance of more than 3.3 petaflops, Jaguar gives the world’s most advanced computational researchers an opportunity to tackle problems that would be unthinkable on other systems. Before the end of the year (2012), Jaguar will become Titan, a 20 petaflop machine that will incorporate the computational power of more than 14,500 NVIDIA Kepler GPUs.
I will give an overview of the upgrade path from Jaguar to Titan, including a description of how this upgrade will impact application development. In addition, I will describe the OLCF’s CSGF Discretionary Allocation program, and how fellows can apply for time of their own on Titan.
