Climate change is one of the major threats facing our society today. Fortunately, there are many ways that scientists and computer scientists can have an impact. Advances in machine learning, for example, are creating new opportunities in the ways we generate and consume energy and in the ways we react to climate change. In this talk, I’ll give a short overview of important open problems for fellows interested in making an impact on climate change and then dive into the ways that machine learning is transforming climate science.
