Summary of Research

Grant (Cage) Mitchell is from North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He graduated from Coastal Carolina University with a B.S. in Applied Physics where his studies focused on environmental physics, applied mathematics, and sustainability.

Cage has worked as a researcher in multiple capacities: leading a team to develop an artificial reef that uses calcium carbonate precipitation to grow shell-like material on a metal structure, developing new methods for filtering microplastics from marsh sediment using microfluidic chips, developing a baseline for the efficacy of simulated microgravity experiments at NASA, and mapping and modeling the spatial footprint and periodicity of sea breeze events in the southeastern united states.

Cage is passionate about developing innovative solutions to highly technical environmental problems. At Stanford University, he will be using numerical modeling, remote sensing, and machine learning techniques to improve existing and develop new sediment transport models.
