"Political" Science
Laura Berzak, AAAS/APS Congressional Science Fellow
The opportunity to work on Capitol Hill can be unique and valuable, particularly because our nation has a definite need for scientists with the inclination and interest to inform and develop policy. Although the jump from spending the day operating high current pulsed power supplies to operating a Blackberry can be frustrating, the transition can also be intriguing. Experiencing firsthand the "how" and "why" (or the lack thereof) of politics and policy is invaluable and can provide a unique opportunity to expand and broaden one's background.
