Simulations of Fracture of Underwater Air-Filled Implodables Using the FIVER Framework
Geoffrey Main, Stanford University
We describe the FIVER framework for fluid-structure and fluid-fluid interaction problems. This framework has been validated extensively for the simulation of complex, nonlinear compressible fluid dynamics. One application for which this method has proven efficacious is simulation of the collapse and fracture of underwater implodables under blast loadings. We show a series of numerical examples which demonstrate the ability of the FIVER method and the code it has been implemented in, AERO-F at Stanford, to simulate challenging fluid-structure interaction problems involving materials under extreme conditions.
